Description

There's a magic in classic albums that transports you back to a specific time and place. My older brother first introduced me to Massive Attack's Protection. We spent a week at the North Carolina beach, and this album was on repeat. As a hip - hop fan back then, it took me a few years to truly appreciate it. Tracey Thorn's vocals on the title track initially confused me, and the closest to rapping was Tricky's 'Karmacoma'. But Horace Andy's tracks were the real draw. The way Andrew 'Mushroom' Vowles, Grant 'Daddy G' Marshall, and Robert '3D' Del Naja worked with the reggae legend on 'Spying Glass', using classic dub techniques, was amazing. Massive Attack made great use of the studio, and instrumental tracks like the piano - driven 'Weather Storm' are as good as the rest. There's no filler on this record. The live cover of The Doors' 'Light My Fire' with Horace Andy might be a love - it - or - leave - it moment. Protection is a classic that defined trip - hop and downtempo. This is a black vinyl pressing with a printed inner sleeve. It was originally released in 1994 and re - issued by Virgin in 2016. Reviewed by The Voice in 09/2012.

To use your Massive Attack: Protection Vinyl LP, first, make sure your record player is clean and in good working condition. Gently place the vinyl on the turntable, center it, and put the needle on the start of the record. You can enjoy the classic trip - hop and downtempo sounds. When handling the vinyl, always hold it by the edges to avoid fingerprints and scratches. After use, carefully return it to its sleeve. Keep the vinyl in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. If it gets dirty, you can use a record cleaning brush to gently clean the grooves. Don't use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials as they can damage the vinyl.
