Barry Brown, initially known as DJ Jah Smile, was part of 'The Aliens' before his solo career. In the mid - late 70s, he broke through with producer Bunny 'Striker' Lee, using a raw, semi - improvised singing style loved by roots fans. His popularity declined in the late 80s, but in the last 20 years, his roots songs have soared in popularity. 'Praises' is a compilation of his rare tracks. Mixed by Paolo Baldini in 2020 at his Italian studio, it retains much of the original Jamaican production by Bunny Lee. The drums by Santa Davis are as impressive as ever.
