Description

One of Fela Kuti's most famous albums! The title track hilariously tells the story of Fela being accused of possessing weed. Fela, the fearless Afrobeat pioneer, often confronted politicians and high - ranking police or army officers. In 1974, when police raided his home and saw him swallow a joint, they tried in vain to make him confess. He spent three days in jail as authorities waited for evidence, but he outsmarted them. The track is a powerful Afrobeat piece with an extended solo by trumpeter Tunde Williams. On the flip side, 'Water No Get Enemy' is slower but equally impactful, with Fela leading on his trademark tenor sax and a tight rhythm section. This black vinyl pressing comes with a free digital download of the album, courtesy of Knitting Factory Records 2014. Reviewed by Señor Sue o Latino in 08/2014.
