Thanks to Shota's iPod, we discovered this gem. Young London - based producer James Blake brings a fresh twist to post - dubstep and future beats on CMYK. He chops samples from 90's R&B hits by Kelis and Aaliyah, then rebuilds and tweaks them into something almost unrecognizable, yet the emotion still shines through. Check out the title track 'CMYK' to see what I mean. There's plenty of glitch and twitchiness, along with deep, rich chords that create his unique, futuristic sound. The album has an emotive, melodic feel throughout, but each track stands out on its own. Like the eerie 'Footnotes' with the vocoder, 'I'll Stay' with stuttering vocals, and the laid - back swing of 'Postpone'. Keep an eye on this artist. It's a must - listen. This release comes on clear splatter colored vinyl and is from the R&S music label in 2022. Reviewed by Von Bee.
