Cate Le Bon's 'Pompeii' is her sixth studio album, following the 2019 Mercury-nominated 'Reward'. With a title evoking apocalypse, Le Bon says the metaphor goes beyond 'dissection of immediacy'. The album is sonically minimal in parts, with lyrics ranging from self - reflection to direct address. Le Bon wrote it mainly on bass, composed alone, played most instruments (except drums and saxophones), and recorded it mostly by herself with Samur Khouja in Cardiff. She aimed to mimic the 'religious' feel of a Tim Presley painting on the studio wall, which also became the album cover. Features include signature synths like those from the Yamaha DX7, 80s Japanese city - pop inspired basslines for joy, memorable vocal arrangements, Stella Mozgawa's 'jazz - thinking' percussion from Australia, and Khouja's support. It comes on sun - yellow colored vinyl, is an indie exclusive, housed in a gatefold sleeve with a printed insert, includes a digital download, and is a limited edition from Mexican Summer 2022.
