Just two months after recording his hit The Sidewinder, trumpeter Lee Morgan went back to Van Gelder Studio in Feb 1964 to craft the amazing album Search for the New Land. He gathered a sextet of Blue Note's young stars: Herbie Hancock on piano, Grant Green on guitar, Wayne Shorter on tenor sax, plus bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Billy Higgins. The album starts with a 16 - minute title track, a musical journey with a shimmering theme and soloist explorations. Four more great Morgan originals follow, like the lively 'The Joker' and 'Morgan the Pirate', and the sad ballad 'Melancholee'. This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is all - analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal. It was originally released in 1966 and re - issued by Blue Note Records in 2024.
