Lucifer Rising is a 1972 short film by experimental filmmaker Kenneth Anger, which wasn't released until 1982 after the soundtrack's completion. It's an antithesis to Anger's Scorpio Rising, focusing on rebellious religious imagery. The soundtrack's story starts in 1967 when Anger saw Bobby Beausoleil and his Orkustra perform at the Invisible Circus. Beausoleil agreed to star on the condition of contributing the score, but the project fell apart. In 1972, Anger commissioned Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, but was later critical of him. After Page's firing, Beausoleil reached out from Tracy Prison. With Anger providing gear and prison permission, inmates performed the tracks. The 1981 vinyl LP was mainly distributed at film screenings. The music combines electronic sounds with moody brass, keyboard experiments, and sharp guitar solos. It's one of the most important psychedelic ambient albums, emphasizing the film's occult elements. This 40th - anniversary limited - edition deluxe version is pressed on red smoke colored vinyl, comes with a gatefold sleeve, and a printed insert with liner notes. Music label: Rustblade 2019.
