Khruangbin has always blended diverse musical styles like East Asian surf - rock, Persian funk, and Jamaican dub into beautiful harmony. On their third album, Mordechai, they've made a bold move. For the first time, vocals are prominent in almost every song. This risk pays off, giving their sound a new emotional directness while still keeping the nomadic spirit. It all began when they returned home. In summer 2019, after nearly three - and - a - half years of touring across the Americas, Europe, and Southeast Asia, bassist Laura Lee Ochoa, guitarist Mark Speer, and drummer DJ Johnson came back to their Texas studio. They decided to take it slow and build something great together. Musically, they drew inspiration from Pakistan, Korea, and West Africa, adding elements like Indian chanting boxes and Congolese guitar. Above all, this album is a tribute to Houston, an eclectic city that nurtured them. It's a cultural hub where you can enjoy various music on any night. This vinyl comes in a black pressing, with a gatefold sleeve, a printed inner sleeve, and includes a digital download. It's released by Dead Oceans in 2020.
