Now that the big names in 'New York Rock' are on their second LPs, it's time to see if they can deliver. But for Manhattan's Interpol, there's no sophomore slump. They went to Connecticut and recorded another great disc of catchy goth, Joy Division - inspired post - punk and alternarock. The single 'Slow Hands' starts with a disco beat and a cool bassline. Who cares what 'we spies / we slow hands' means? It just sounds awesome! 'Evil' is also bass - driven, with a nice snare shuffle in the pre - chorus that brings to mind Sonic Youth. 'Not Even Jail' has a steady pulse and 'C'Mere' is a great lovers' lament. All 10 tracks are top - notch and really satisfying.
