For his ninth album, Devendra Banhart combines sparse instrumentation like guitar, some synth, and drums with sorrowful lyrics. Similar to 2013's Mala, Ape In Pink Marble features 13 songs full of loneliness and melancholy. For example, 'Don't Come back, please come back tonight / Just about the only thing left is a lie.' Banhart sings and whispers about the darkness in an appealing way. Don't miss tracks like 'Fancy Man', 'Saturday Night', 'Good Time Charlie', 'Fig In Leather', and the bossa - nova - influenced 'Theme for a Taiwanese Woman in Lime Green'. Music label: Nonesuch 2016.
