Originally envisioned as an orchestral work inspired by Iceland's landscapes, 'The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows' has evolved. In lockdown last year, Damon Albarn revisited the music, expanding it to 11 tracks that delve into themes of fragility, loss, emergence, and rebirth. Albarn acts as a captivating storyteller in this panoramic collection of songs. The album title comes from a John Clare poem. Albarn shares that his solo journey while making the record led him to believe in a pure source. This record showcases his musical exploration, combining grand orchestral arrangements with intimate melodies, discordance with infectious grandeur, and features some of his most compelling vocals. Like the natural world it represents, the album vividly captures the emotional ups and downs of humanity. It's a soul - enriching record for our times. This is a black vinyl pressing with a printed insert, released by Transgressive in 2021.
