The third studio album from the Chicago surf - rock trio Dehd! Despite having just one guitar, a bass, a floor tom, snare, and a tambourine, Dehd creates a reverberant, Spector - like wall of sound, drawing inspiration from post - punk, dreampop, and the '60s Nashville scene. The trio features Emily Kempf on lead vocals and bass, Jason Balla on guitar, and Eric McGrady on drums, made up of seasoned Chicago indie rockers from acts like Lala Lala and Ne - Hi. Flower Of Devotion has better fidelity and is catchier than their previous release, Water, put out by NYC indie label Fire Talk. Kempf's signature husky vibrato stands out on tracks like 'Loner', 'Nobody', and 'No Time', while Balla's baritone complements her well on the album opener 'Desire'. This limited - edition (only 300 copies) record comes on clear colored vinyl with a printed insert. Music label: Fire Talk 2020. Reviewed by SHH! 05/2022.
