This is a post - bop masterpiece from the American jazz legend Charles Mingus. Originally recorded in 1959, Mingus Ah Um was influenced by Mingus' musical ancestors. It was his debut for Columbia, a recording that fully showcases his talents. The album is incredibly diverse. 'Better Get It in Your Soul' offers spiritual ecstasy with gospel shouts, while 'Fables of Faubus' mocks segregationist Arkansas governor Orval Faubus. There's a tribute to Lester Young on 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat' and the energetic swing of 'Boogie Stop Shuffle'. Mingus also pays homage to Duke Ellington and Jelly Roll Morton in their namesake songs. Ah Um is the closest to being the ultimate Mingus album. With nine tracks, it's highly recommended. Features include 180g teal - colored vinyl housed in a die - cut sleeve. The lineup features Charles Mingus (b, p), Booker Ervin (t. sax), Shafi Hadi (t. sax), John Handy (a. sax), Willie Dennis (trombone), Jimmy Knepper (trombone), Horace Parlan (p), Dannie Richmond (d). It's a limited edition from music label Dol 2020.
