Darkness Descends is the second album by LA thrash metal band Dark Angel. It takes the band to new heights compared to their 1986 debut. This record features 'human drum machine' Gene Hoglan (Fear Factory, Dethklok) and the last appearance of original vocalist Don Doty. Inspired by the classic UK satirical comic Judge Dredd, the album quotes the Dark Judges' mantra in the title - track lyrics. Widely influential, it's considered their best work, comparable to Metallica and Slayer. The songs are fast, heavy, with tempo changes, unique lyric breaks, and extended instrumentals. 'Darkness Descends' starts with a guitar squall and then doubles in speed. 'Merciless Death' has low - register strums and chainsaw - like slashes. The music is relentless yet varied.
