Bonobo is a perfect fit for the LateNightTales compilation. His productions, rich in jazz and folk samples, are ideal for those dreamy hours between night and dawn. This UK producer doesn't let you down. Many selections have a strong folk music feel, along with some smooth soul and spacious downtempo choices. There's a lot of strings and piano, like 'An Ending A Beginning' by Dustin O'Halloran at the start and Dorothy Ashby's 'Essence Of Sapphire', which are really nice. Bonobo's cover of Donovan's 'Get Thy Bearings' blends right in, turning the 1960s hip grooves into a smooth downtempo piece. Most of the compilation is subtle and sublime, giving a great sense of comfort. With songs from Nina Simone, BadBadNotGood, and Matthew Bourne, it's a top - notch collection to end the night as the sun rises. Music label: LateNightTales 2013. Reviewed by Michu Meszaros 03/2015.
