The third studio album by Canadian singer - songwriter Joni Mitchell, Ladies Of The Canyon, was recorded from 1969 to 1970. It marks a shift from her early folk - inspired works to more refined albums. Many songs have long instrumental parts, a feature fully developed in later albums like Court And Spark. The flute and saxophone in 'For Free' and 'Conversation' show the jazz influence on her subsequent recordings. Joni Mitchell explores various moods, from the sunny 'Morning Morgantown' to the sentimental 'The Circle Game' (a response to Neil Young's 'Sugar Mountain'). The album also features Mitchell's timeless hits 'Big Yellow Taxi' and 'Woodstock'. It comes as a 180g black vinyl pressing with a gatefold sleeve, released by Reprise Records in 2009.
