Zehra proudly presents The Trance Of Seven Colors, a unique musical collaboration between master Gnawa musician Maleem Mahmoud Ghania and free - jazz legend Pharoah Sanders, now available on vinyl for the first time. In 1994, Bill Laswell and Sanders traveled to Morocco with simple mobile recording devices. They recorded Ghania and a large group of musicians (many being family members) in an intimate setting at a private house. Sanders, a well - known free - jazz artist, is famous for his distinctive tenor saxophone sounds, earning high praise since his days with John Coltrane, his wife Alice, and on classic solo albums like Karma (1969). Maleem Mahmoud Ghania (1951 - 2015), son of Gnawa music master Maleem Boubker Ghania, was a master of traditional Gnawa style. With 30 cassette releases and performances at major Moroccan festivals, including for the King, he was one of Morocco's top professional musicians. Originally released in 1994 on Bill Laswell's Axiom imprint and produced by him, The Trance Of Seven Colors is a meeting of two musical giants. 25 years after its CD release, it's finally on vinyl, remastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. This 180 - gram vinyl comes in a gatefold sleeve and includes a download code. Key features: 180g black double vinyl pressing, gatefold sleeve with liner notes, remastered for vinyl, digital download included, and it's from the Zehra label in 2020.
