Light In The Attic's Country Funk compilation is back with a bang! This Seattle - based label revisited this nameless genre, and it's a real treat. Volume 2 might just outshine the first one. Country Funk is all about the song's vibe, tying them together with hip - swinging rhythms and a hint of whiskey. These songs will get you dancing as soon as the needle hits the groove. In the late 60s and early 70s, country music blended with various sounds across the country. Country hoedowns met inner - city blues, and church music got a touch of rock and soul. Volume 2 features well - known stars like Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, Kenny Rogers, Jackie DeShannon, JJ Cale, Bobby Darin, and Dolly Parton. They're joined by lesser - known artists such as Bill Wilson, whose lost 'Ever Changing Minstrel' album was produced by Bob Johnston, and Thomas Jefferson Kaye, producer of Gene Clark's 'No Other'. Compiled by the same team as Volume 1 (DJ and music supervisor Zach Cowie, plus Matt Sullivan and Patrick McCarthy from Light In The Attic), the release also includes a comic book 'The Hot Dawgs' by Jessica Hundley and Jess Rotter inside the gatefold sleeve. This double LP comes in a deluxe Stoughton 'Tip - On' jacket, proving there's so much great Country Funk out there. Music label: Light In The Attic 2014. Reviewed by Hank Ohs 07/2014.
