Obaro Ejimiwe, known as Ghostpoet, has two Mercury Prize - nominated albums. Since his 2015 album Shedding Skin, he's back with Dark Days + Canapés. This album takes on current macrosocietal issues. Unlike his earlier works relying on beats and electronics, it amps up guitars and organic sounds, bringing to mind the lo - fi soul of early TV On The Radio and the bluesy experimentalism of Gorillaz. It stands at the peak of the British - Jamaican spoken word tradition, influenced by acts like Linton Kwesi Johnson, Massive Attack, and post - punk groups such as Joy Division.
