Description

Before this session was recorded in Paris, Dexter Gordon moved to Scandinavia. The renowned tenor saxophonist felt liberated as a jazz musician and a person. This freedom shines through in the track lengths on One Flight Up, especially 'Tanya' which fills the first side. Freed from the US music scene's short - hit norm, Gordon and his quintet could jam for longer. Gordon's bluesy tenor plays subtly against Donald Byrd's upfront trumpet, while Kenny Drew's piano chords hold the music together. 'Coppin' The Haven' gives Byrd room to improvise, with its modal minor key floating smoothly over the swinging rhythm. The album ends with the ballad 'Darn That Dream', fully spotlighting Gordon. This 180g black vinyl is part of Blue Note's Tone Poet audiophile remaster series. It's cut from original tapes and housed in a glossy tip - on gatefold sleeve. Features Dexter Gordon (tenor sax), Donald Byrd (trumpet), Kenny Drew (piano), Niels - Henning Orsted (bass), Art Taylor (drums). Music label: Blue Note Records 2021. To use this vinyl LP, first make sure your turntable is clean and in good working condition. Gently remove the vinyl from the glossy tip - on gatefold sleeve by holding it at the edges to avoid fingerprints. Place it carefully on the turntable platter and set the tonearm over the start of the record. Let the music play and enjoy the rich sound of the all - analog remaster. When you're done, lift the tonearm gently and return it to its rest. Then, put the vinyl back into its sleeve. To keep it in top shape, store it vertically in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid touching the playing surface as much as possible to prevent scratches and dust buildup. If it gets dirty, use a proper vinyl cleaning brush to clean it.
