Description

Formed by Ichiko Hashimoto and Atsuo Fujimoto after touring with YMO, Colored Music released their self-titled album in 1981 and then took a 36-year break. Hashimoto and Fujimoto are the main songwriters and musicians, but the album features many session players, like the charming percussionist Pecker and Prism drummer Mansaku Kimura. Kimura's drumming on top of 808 and other drum machines creates a unique rhythm, inspired by Sly Stone's Fresh album. Hashimoto and Fujimoto take turns singing over deep funk basslines and celestial pads from the Roland Jupiter 4. Inspired by Roxy Music, Miles Davis, Brian Eno, and Bowie's Berlin Trilogy, the album offers a colorful mix of styles, from adventurous improvisation to proto-house music. It shifts between Kate Bush - inspired ballads and ZZ Top - like blues - rock. The 2025 Japan import pressing includes a previously CD - only bonus track, 'Giant Bird'. It comes on clear sky blue colored vinyl, is a high - quality Japan import with an obi strip and a printed foldout insert. It's a limited edition from the original 1981 release, under the Nipponophone 2025 label. Reviewed by Sunrise Mart in 09/2018.

To enjoy this Colored Music vinyl LP, simply place it on your turntable and use the tonearm to drop the needle gently on the record. Make sure your turntable is set up correctly and the speed is adjusted to 33 1/3 RPM. When handling the vinyl, hold it by the edges to avoid fingerprints and scratches on the playing surface. Store the vinyl in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent warping. Keep the album in its sleeve when not in use to protect it from dust.
