Description

Bob James, a name well - known to every hip - hop enthusiast, is a legendary keyboardist who pioneered the 70s jazz - funk sound. He created numerous covers and original pieces for labels like CTI, RCA, and Tappan Zee Records. His early recordings, especially tracks like 'Nautilus' and '(Take Me To The) Mardi Gras', have been sampled extensively and are considered foundations of the hip - hop movement. Until now, there hasn't been a complete collection of his raw and funky early work. Back then, he favored the Rhodes electric piano, before shifting to a more synthesized smooth - jazz style. 'Rhodes Scholar', compiled by Andrew Mason, offers funk - filled cuts from his early days, cutting out the smooth - jazz elements of his later years. These are his most sampled and heaviest tracks. Fans of hip - hop acts such as Run - DMC, De La Soul, and dance music lovers familiar with Moodymann will recognize the sources of many big hits. This compilation has been on heavy rotation at HQ. It includes unseen vintage photos and detailed liner notes by Mason with comments from Bob James himself. The triple LP comes in a gatefold sleeve. It's a must - have for music lovers. Music label: Decision 2013. Reviewed by Michu Meszaros 09/2013.

To enjoy this amazing vinyl collection, simply place the LP on your turntable, gently drop the needle, and let the music flow. Make sure your turntable is clean and in good working condition for the best sound quality. When handling the vinyl, hold it by the edges to avoid fingerprints and scratches. After each use, put the LP back in its sleeve carefully to protect it. Store the records in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent warping. If you notice any dust on the vinyl, use a proper record cleaning brush to gently remove it. This collection is a gem, so take good care of it and enjoy the classic jazz - funk music again and again.
