Cultural phenomena are like shooting stars in popular culture. Chicha, once an obscure music in the 1970s Peruvian slums, could have faded away. But thanks to the 2007 CD The Roots of Chicha by Brooklyn's Barbès Records, it's now a global sensation. This album is a tribute to Peruvian culture. In the late 1960s, Peruvian guitarists mixed cumbia, surf, Cuban guaracha, rock, Peruvian folklore, and psychedelic elements to create chicha. Despite being scorned by the middle - class, it found a home in Lima's slums. This 2023 pressing is a compilation of rare psychedelic cumbia music on black double vinyl, released by Barbès Records in 2021.

To enjoy this vinyl, first, make sure your record player is clean and in good working condition. Gently place the vinyl on the turntable and use the tonearm to set the needle on the starting groove. Play at the recommended speed (usually 33 1/3 RPM for LPs). When you're done, lift the tonearm carefully and remove the vinyl. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent warping. Avoid touching the playing surface with your fingers as this can leave oils and dirt, which may affect the sound quality.
