James Gunn's sci - fi hit, Guardians Of The Galaxy, owes much of its success to the amazing soundtrack. Tyler Bates' score sets the mood, but it's the songs on 'Awesome Mix Vol. 1' that really amp up the movie's fun. The cassette tape and Walkman are key to some of the movie's most unforgettable moments. For example, Chris Pratt's Peter Quill sings 'I'm Not In Love' to distract from his sick mom. Then kidnapped to an alien planet, the tape is his only link to home. Gunn curated the soundtrack while writing, with songs inspiring scenes. Think of Quill pairing prison violence with 'Hooked On A Feeling' or singing to the villain. 'I Want You Back' takes you to the closing credits with Groot dancing.
