Dan Snaith's latest full - length as Daphni (while his Caribou guise takes a break for song - focused, full - band projects) features full versions of tracks first heard in last year's Fabriclive 93 mix. Like Omar - S and Ricardo Villalobos' contributions to the series, Snaith used this mix to preview new Daphni productions. The tracks on Joli Mai are full of life. With freeform arrangements of colorful analog synths and bass guitar licks, accented by wooden drums and soulful vocal snippets in classic Daphni style. Most of the record is upbeat, but “Xing Tian” and “Vulture” have a sinister edge. Highlights include “Medellin,” “Face To Face,” “The Truth,” “Tin,” and the Daft Punk - like closer “Life's What You Make It.” This is a double vinyl pressing with a full - color pic sleeve and printed inner sleeves.
