Producer Norman Granz aimed to introduce Parker to a wider audience. On this album, both Parker and Gillespie play with amazing energy, going head - to - head in many takes. The recordings also feature Thelonious Monk and Buddy Rich. While Monk's unique piano is a bit muted in the mix and some find Rich's contributions intrusive, it's still a must - have.
