Dev Hynes, as Blood Orange, released his fourth album, Negro Swan, two years after Freetown Sound. It's an album for our current dystopia, sharing the traumas of the black experience. The gentle funk in 'Orlando' masks the lyrical harshness, and the sunny guitar in 'Charcoal Baby' makes a welcome comeback. This album offers a constantly changing experience with thought - provoking interludes. Recorded in studios worldwide, it features guests like Puff Daddy, Tei Shi, A$AP Rocky, and Project Pat. It comes as a black double - vinyl pressing with printed inner sleeves, includes a digital download, and is from the Domino label in 2018. Reviewed by 'asleep with the lights on' in 04/2019.
