Mantronix: King Of The Beats - Anthology 1985-1988 2LP

In the early 80s NY music scene, no one was more iconic than Mantronix. The duo of DJ/producer Kurtis Mantronik and rapper MC Tee won club - goers with 808 beats, unique scratching and synthetic sounds. Their hit 'Fresh Is The Word' combined the electro of 'Planet Rock' and the lyrical skills of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five. In 1985, their independently released 'Mantronix: The Album' came out on Sleeping Bag Records. Meanwhile, Mantronik was busy with A&R and producing artists like T La Rock. 'King Of The Beats: Anthology 1985 - 1988' by Traffic compiles some of Kurtis Mantronik's best pre - hip - hop - departure works. This period's Mantronik sound heavily featured drum machines, using samples as accents. T La Rock's 'Bass Machine' drum programming influenced southern hip hop.
