Madlib is a prolific musician, creating music in diverse styles. One day, while listening to his new beats and studio sessions, Four Tet got the idea of a Madlib solo album. Not just beats for vocalists, but an album of tracks flowing seamlessly from start to finish. They decided to collaborate, with Madlib sending Four Tet hundreds of music pieces over a couple of years. Four Tet arranged, edited, and combined them to create this album.
Remember when Four Tet remixed Madvillainy? It was like finding a lost treasure. In December 2020, "Road of the Lonely Ones" dropped, with a soulful sample and tight drum - programming. Kieran Hebden's influence is evident in tracks like "Hoprock" and "Riddim Chant". Although it's more Madlib than Four Tet, this is one of the best Madlib 'solo' releases in the last decade.
