Over the past two years, MF DOOM has been in exile in London. After touring Europe in 2010, visa issues led to his return to his birthplace, potentially delaying projects like Madvillainy 2 and keeping him away from loved ones. But this seasoned MC is tough and adaptable. With Key To The Kuffs, he bounces back, shows his humor, and gives us a peek into his life in exile. Teaming up with producer Jneiro Jarel, he reveals new sides of himself. The album might lack a strong overarching theme like previous releases, yet the MC and producer work great together. Jarel tones down his chaotic beats, leaving space for DOOM to shine while still adding some oddness. DOOM is the real star. It feels like he's had a long - awaited chance to rap. He has a lot to say, from Frankenfoods to his US banishment and the 2010 Icelandic volcano. His vocabulary is vast, and his voice is gritty, making you want to rewind. Features guest appearances by Beth Gibbons (Portishead), Khujo Goodie, Boston Fielder, and Damon Albarn. Artwork by Stephen Powers aka ESPO. This 2012 collaboration comes as a black double vinyl pressing, housed in an embossed jacket with printed inner sleeves, and is released by Lex Records in 2021. A must - have for fans!
