Maybe it was destiny that united Jessy Lanza and Jeremy Greenspan. The Junior Boys genius first asked Lanza to do backing vocals for his 2011 LP, It's All True. Greenspan was really impressed by Lanza's talent then, and they started making songs together in his Berlin studio. The outcome is Lanza's debut, Pull My Hair Back, with 9 tracks. It offers a simple yet stylish take on modern R&B and electronic pop. There's a lot of space in the music, whether between lyrics or drum programming, and it works wonders. Nothing is over - the - top; everything is just perfect. Even though it might seem an odd choice for a label like Hyperdub, Pull My Hair Back will surely expand their influence. How great it would be if this kind of music was on commercial radio! This record is highly recommended. Music label: Hyperdub 2013. Reviewed by Joey Coco 09/2013.
