Looking for Iggy Pop in the mid - 90s might seem odd. It was a late phase in his career, and you'd expect little to discover. But then you hear 'American Caesar'. Following the star - studded 'Brick By Brick', this album took a whole new direction. Pop collaborated with a relatively unknown producer and recorded with his touring band. His goal was to 'make [an] album as good as I could, with no imitations and no formula nonsense', and he far exceeded expectations. 'American Caesar' is an underrated masterpiece. Tracks like the hard - rocking 'Wild America' and 'Plastic And Concrete', along with the more laid - back 'Mixing The Colors', 'Jealousy', and 'It's Our Love' showcase its brilliance.
