Description

Alice Coltrane used her harp to take us to other worlds on 'A Monastic Trio' and 'World Galaxy'. But Dorothy Ashby was a pioneer in using the harp in jazz. She played the harp in creative ways. Besides the flowing strumming we love from Alice Coltrane, Ashby played subtly, like a jazz - guitar without the annoying riffs. Listen to her beautiful version of Jimmy Webb's 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix' or the break - heavy 'Fool On The Hill' by The Beatles. Ashby was influenced by Brazilian music. Her renditions of 'Canto De Ossanha' by Baden Powell & Vinicius De Moraes and 'Reza' by Edu Lobo are highlights of the album. 'Dorothy's Harp' was quietly released between her well - known 'Afro - Harping' album and her work with Bill Withers and Stevie Wonder in the 1970s. It's now a soul - jazz classic, highly sought after by jazz fans. Music On Vinyl has released it on 180 - gram audiophile blue vinyl for the first time in nearly 50 years! There are only 750 individually - numbered copies. This is a limited - edition release from Music On Vinyl in 2017.

To enjoy this vinyl record, first, make sure your turntable is clean and in good working condition.
