Founding member Devin Ruben Perez left, Colin Caulfield shifted from keyboards to bass and co - wrote with Zachary Cole Smith. Cole Smith is two years into recovery and used this change creatively. DIIV recorded Deceiver together in Los Angeles, a first for a band mainly driven by Cole Smith's solo songwriting. Caulfield and Cole Smith worked on demos and arranged songs with the band.
