Not much is known about John T. Gast. We first noticed him when his name was found in the credits of Hype Williams' (Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland) Black Is Beautiful LP for Hyperdub. Since Black Is Beautiful, Gast has kept working with these two producers and built his own impressive body of work with some top UK labels. After his 2015 debut Excerpts for Planet Mu, he released singles for Blackest Ever Black and Apron, a limited CD - R as Young Druid, and collaborated with Copeland on 'Sisters Of Control'. While Excerpts showed his diverse styles, INNA BABALON focuses on haunted, end - of - world vibes with zoot smoke and celtic goth mysticism. Gast masterfully combines different sounds to create a distinctively UK - sounding album, like Coil's cold steel mill sounds in 'Babl Callin', provincial English folk with militant digidub in 'Jah Guidance', and Aba - Shanti - I with SAW - era Richard D. James in 'Celtfunk'. Originally released as 100 cassettes in 2016, this album gets a well - deserved double vinyl pressing by Haunter Records in 2017. It's a must - have limited edition album.
