Blur distanced themselves from Britpop in their last few albums. On '13', they parted ways with longtime producer Stephen Street and brought in electronic producer William Orbit. This album also marked the breakup of Damon Albarn and his girlfriend Justine Frischmann of Elastica. Damon Albarn leaned towards a more electronic sound, while guitarist Graham Coxon pushed for a punk - rock vibe. Tracks like 'B.L.U.R.E.M.I.' are energetic, and 'Swamp Song' and 'Bugman' offer glam - pop elements. The album's saddest moments, skillfully blending acoustic and electronic elements, are its highlights and hint at Albarn's solo work. '13' shows the band delving into their individual worlds.
