Hadsel is Beirut's first new full - length record since 2019's Gallipoli and the debut on Zach Condon's own Pompeii Records. After a physical and mental breakdown forced Condon to cancel his 2019 tour, he recorded this album on the Norwegian island of Hadsel. Condon was in a state of shock and self - doubt, working in isolation. He says the beautiful nature, northern lights, and storms around him influenced the music. The resulting songs show vulnerability, self - determination, and the belief that one can recover after a collapse.
