Alejandro Jodorowsky's fame has skyrocketed in recent years, especially after the release of 'Jodorowsky's Dune'. But back in the 1970s, this Chilean polymath was already a big name. After his theater work, he made 'El Topo', an acid - western cult classic loved by John Lennon, which led to a $1 million deal for his next film, 'The Holy Mountain', released in 1973. This epic movie follows 'The Thief' equated with Jesus, a mystical alchemist, and a spiritual quest for immortality. During filming, Jodorowsky got spiritual training and had psychedelic experiences. The soundtrack, produced by Jodorowsky, Don Cherry, and Ronald Frangipane, is as surreal as the movie. It mixes psychedelic rock, esoteric folk, tone poems, orchestral themes, vintage dance music, and Tuvan throat - singing. It's a must - have hidden gem from the 1970s.
