Description
There's a unique charm that sets Liaisons Dangereuses apart from their contemporaries. This German band, often compared to Throbbing Gristle, The Normal, and Nitzer Ebb, offers an album that's distinct from the material of these acts. Their sole album was crafted from four ten - minute cassettes, compiled and mixed at Conny Plank's studio in 1981 for wider release. Founded by Beate Bartel (Mania D, Einstürzende Neubauten) and Chrislo Haas (Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft), along with vocalist Krishna Goineau, the group had a profound impact on EBM (electronic body music). Their sound influenced early Chicago house and Detroit techno. 'Los Niños del Parque,' a standout track, still gets played in DJ sets today. The vocals, a co - ed mix of Spanish, German, French, and jumbled English, add an extra layer of confusion and disorientation. The real draw, though, is the pulsating rhythms in tracks like 'Avant - Après Mars' and 'Peut - être ... Pas,' the latter sampled by Carl Craig and played by Ron Hardy. Bizarre and captivating, this album is a must - have for any serious dance music fan. Music label: TIS 1981 / Soulsheriff Records 2014. Reviewed by Michu Meszaros 02/2015.
