Kavinsky made a splash when 'Nightcall' was in Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive. Now, 'ProtoVision', the lead single from his Record Makers' album OutRun, continues the electro - sleaze trend. It's full of retro synth theatrics and pounding drum programming. This 12' record offers some unexpected versions. The 'Red Sky Mix' has vocals from STS, who first caught Kavinsky's eye with verses over 'Nightcall'. Boys Noize gives an aggressive take, changing chords and ramping up the energy. Blood Orange, a hot - moment producer, added smooth pop balladry, taking a break from big names like Solange. And Parisian legend Sebastien Tellier gives 'ProtoVision' an epic symphonic twist.
