John Frusciante steps away from the limelight to a more personal musical space. From 2004 - 2008, he was busy contributing to Vincent Gallo's 'Brown Bunny' soundtrack, releasing six solo records, and making a chart - topping album with the Chili Peps. His 10th solo album, 'The Empyrean' (2009), is a psychedelic concept album about death and rebirth, both literally and abstractly. It features Johnny Marr of The Smiths, and former bandmates Flea and Josh Klinghoffer. His cover of Jeff Buckley's 'Song Of The Siren' is instantly captivating, with its spooky flanged piano and studio - as - instrument atmosphere. 'One More Of Me' shows off his bassy and ragged voice alongside a jaunty fiddle, while 'Central' is a Radiohead - like damaged art - rock jam.
