Here's the 11th album from Drive-By Truckers, an Alabama-bred, Georgia-based band founded by Mike Cooley and Patterson Hood in 1996. This band takes a firm stand on current political issues. For example, on 'Surrender Under Protest', they support civil rights activists' efforts to remove the Confederate flag from the South Carolina Statehouse (Patterson Hood wrote a moving piece for the New York Times about it). Despite some opposition from the fanbase, Cooley and Hood continue to speak their minds on important matters like societal disintegration. Album highlights include 'Ramon Casiano', 'Darkened Flags On the Cusp of Dawn', 'What It Means', and 'Guns of Umpqua' which examines the tragic Oregon shooting. The album comes on red marbled vinyl, includes a 7' of 'Kinky Hypocrite', is limited to 5,000 copies, and is from ATO Records in 2016. Reviewed by donut savage in 10/2016.
