Description
Perception Productions, a New York - based label from the late 60s to 1974, had an amazing catalog of jazz, funk, soul, and proto - disco. It offers a vivid picture of the Manhattan black music scene then, with big names like Shirley Horn, James Moody, and Dizzy Gillespie. Dizzy Gillespie's debut on the label, 'The Real Thing', is a rare groove masterpiece, with the famous 'Matrix' sampled by the Beatnuts. Perception also explored soul and funk, signing Bill Curtis from the Fatback Band and Patrick Adams. Adams created great works with Black Ivory and Leroy Burgess. The Black Ivory tracks here are from their 'Don't Turn Around' album. The Fatback Band, starting from New York street funk, found success when 'Going To See My Baby' was picked by DJ Frankie Crocker. Besides these stars, there were also many one - off acts. DJ Spinna has done a great job for BBE, separating the best music for us. A must - have! Music label: BBE 2012.
