When the pandemic started, Death Cab for Cutie faced a challenge in making a record. With band members in four different cities, they couldn't be in the studio together. Singer Ben Gibbard came up with an innovative plan. Each band member got a day in a week to work on a piece of music, with the order randomly decided. This led to many successful song creations. Over half of the songs on Asphalt Meadows were born from these sessions. Even demos by Gibbard went through this process before recording with producer John Congleton. This 180g pink colored vinyl is an indie exclusive, housed in a gatefold sleeve. It comes with a digital download and is a limited edition of 5000, released by Barsuk Records in 2022.
