When Art Department made their second album, they aimed for a more 'mature and experimental sound.' The Canadian tech - house duo, Johnny White and Kenny Glasgow, delivered with Natural Selection. This album is more imaginative than their debut, The Drawing Board. It has a wide - ranging and atmospheric feel, less focused on club - friendly Chicago house. There are dancefloor moments like 'It's Through' and 'Cruel Intentions' (a collaboration with Seth Troxler). However, most of the album features slower tempos. It shows IDM and new wave influences, ambient parts, and the brooding trip - hop of 'In The Wake.' It's an interesting follow - up, revealing a more varied approach. Music label: No.19 Music 2014.
