Mark Lanegan's new album, Straight Songs Of Sorrow, is a musical journey inspired by his life story in his memoir, Sing Backwards And Weep. This 15 - song album blends elements from his early albums with the synthesized sounds of later work. The meditative acoustic guitar fingerpicking by Mark Morton on 'Apples From A Tree' and 'Hanging On (For DRC)' recalls 1994's Whiskey For The Holy Ghost. The album opener, 'I Wouldn't Want To Say,' echoes Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, with Lanegan improvising over unique sound patterns from his Organelle synth. This is the 12th solo full - length from the former Screaming Trees singer. It comes as an 180g clear double vinyl pressing in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves, and includes a digital download. The music is from the Heavenly label in 2020.
