It's hard to believe a decade has passed since Jessie Ware's debut album hit the shelves. Back then, her silky, soulful voice over the ultra - modern post - dubstep production (what everyone called 'bass music') was an instant hit. Before this album, she was mainly known as the mysterious vocalist on an SBTRKT album. With 'Devotion', she truly made a name for herself. An original review noted the album's restraint, which is a key part of its charm. On hits like 'Wildest Moment' and 'Running', you might expect a big vocal outburst, but it doesn't happen, much to our delight. After a long road - trip listening session, it leaves a Soul II Soul - like flavor in your ears, more like 'Keep On Movin''s unique sound. The production by Dave Okumu, Julio Bashmore, and Kid Harpoon is masterful, reminiscent of Malay's work on 'Channel Orange'. This 10th anniversary edition is expanded with rare bonus tracks like 'Valentine' (ft. Sampha) and remixes by Disclosure, Joe Goddard, Ewan Pearson and more. It comes in a gatefold jacket with printed inner sleeves. Originally released in 2012, this new version is from the Island label in 2022. Reviewed in 05/2013 by the mgmnt.
To use this vinyl record, first, make sure your turntable is clean and in good working condition. Gently remove the record from the gatefold jacket, holding it by the edges to avoid fingerprints. Place it on the turntable and set the tonearm carefully on the record's edge. Sit back and enjoy the music. When you're done, lift the tonearm gently and return it to its rest. Put the record back in the jacket, making sure it's properly aligned in the inner sleeve to prevent scratches. Store the record in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat to keep it in good shape. Also, avoid stacking heavy objects on top of the record or the jacket to prevent warping.
