Description

Arthur Russell's music still captivates and inspires. His work is more well - known today than ever. In the mid - eighties, he gained fame in discos with 12” singles under different names. But he left behind a vast amount of sublime and touching music, mostly unfinished. Tom Lee, Russell's partner, and Audika Records spent decades creating records from long sessions, improvisations, and home - recorded cassettes. Iowa Dream features nineteen new Russell compositions, enhanced by NYC downtown legends like Ernie Brooks, Rhys Chatham, Peter Gordon, and David Van Tieghem. Contemporary avant - garde composer Peter Broderick helped with audio restoration and mixing of nearly - finished songs. This collection includes Mercury Records demos, 70s California folk - style songs, and pop tunes showing Russell's love for NYC discos. It also has the long - awaited “You Did It Yourself”, previously only heard briefly in the 2008 documentary Wild Combination. The package comes with a printed insert with liner notes and rare photos. It's a limited - edition black double vinyl pressing from Audika in 2019. Highly recommended.

To enjoy this Arthur Russell Iowa Dream vinyl record, first, make sure your turntable is clean and in good working condition. Gently remove the record from its sleeve, holding it by the edges to avoid fingerprints. Place it carefully on the turntable and start the playback. When you're done, return the record to its sleeve and store it upright in a cool, dry place to prevent warping. Keep the printed insert in a safe place as it has valuable liner notes and rare photos. Since it's a limited - edition item, handle it with care to preserve its value.
