Alsarah & The Nubatones: Slit Vinyl LP

Get lost in the hazy world of retro African pop from DJ Nickodemus' Wonderwheel Recordings. Their latest offering is the debut album 'Silt' by Sudanese singer Alsarah and her band, the Nubatones. Alsarah calls it 'East African Retro Pop,' a sound inspired by the dreamy Nubian music of the 60s and 70s. The Nubatones, featuring percussionist Rami El Aasser, master Oud player and Luthier Haig Manoukian, and bass player Mawuena Kodjovi, create the ideal backdrop for Alsarah's vocals. The music fuses the 70s Khartoum sound with Arabic and North African influences. Released in 2014 by Wonderwheel Recordings and reviewed by Le Haim in April 2014.
